5 Questions with Marko Gudurić

If he learns that effort and dedication can take him anywhere, I’ll be proud.
All our Bubu Island families are special, but this summer one Bubulander dad had an extraordinary experience, the Olympic Games. We caught up with Marko Gudurić, professional basketball player for Fenerbahçe and the Serbian national team, to talk about the Games, fatherhood, and what sports mean for kids and families.
What makes the Olympic Games different from other competitions?
The Olympics are something else. Being among more than 10,000 athletes from around the world, representing your country, it’s a huge honor. Watching how others train and prepare was incredibly inspiring. It's a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience.

How did you prepare for the pressure and intense competition?
There’s no magic formula, just consistent work. The same routines, every day. On the court, tensions can run high, but I try to stay calm and focused. Good communication with my teammates helps more than anything.
In crunch time, what matters more: physical skill or mental strength?
Both matter, but in high-pressure moments, mental strength often makes the difference. We train so much that the body knows what to do, but it’s the mind that can push us through. Personally, faith also plays a big role in keeping me grounded.
Was it hard not having your family there the whole time?
Very. I really missed them during the preparation phase and the Games. My family gives me strength, especially in tough moments. Luckily, my wife was able to be there for the semifinals and the bronze medal match, and her presence made a big difference.

What qualities would you love to see in your son?
I don’t think there are traits just for athletes, but I’d love for him to grow up with respect, for others, especially elders, and a belief in hard work. If he learns that effort and dedication can take him anywhere, I’ll be proud.
